Friendsfest Glasgow 2018

Friendsfest has been running successfully for several years across the UK. Organised by Comedy Central TV channel, this park event recreates the iconic Friends stage sets, including Monica and Rachels apartment, Central Perk coffee shop and the opening scene sofa where fans can put themselves in the sitcom.

Our customer, a leading portable toilet hire specialist, supplied the portable loos and wash stations for the 10-day event in Glasgow's Victoria Park. Waste Water Services were contracted to service the portable toilets at 7 am each morning and supply the consumables, including toilet rolls, soap and hand towels.

With such a high-profile event and large numbers of visitors expected throughout the ten days, Waste Water Services had to ensure the toilets were well maintained and stocked; there was no room for any problems or disruptions. Based on the number of expected attendees, we determined the required amount of supplies each day.

Friendsfest went well, until the penultimate day of the festival when a higher than expected number of visitors attended due to the buzz the event generated. Our out of hours received a call from the event manager to tell us they were about to run out of toilet tolls and hand towels and urgently required a restock of consumables as quickly as possible.

Waste Water Services are always mindful of this type of situation arising, and we allow for this in our job planning. We informed the customer that we would be in attendance within the hour, which reassured the events organisers and our client. In less than the hour stated we were onsite and had restocked with enough extra supplies for the day, plus allowed for extra if required for the last day.

Conclusion

All-in-all the ten-day event went very well, with record numbers attending. Our customer and the event organisers were delighted with the part we played in ensuring everyone had a great time. Waste Water Services kept the loos looking good and functioning well throughout the event, especially when there was a potential issue which could have affected the last few days.

FESTIVALS & EVENTS COMMENT

This was an operation that had no room for error or disruption. With such a high profile event and taking into account, the event had TV cameras on site on this day which was a Saturday we had to react very quickly with the extra consumables to avoid any negativity with the toilet facilities that could have arisen. Outside office hours, we always have a member of the Operations team available to deal with these urgent situations.
